A new A-Mega pharmacy opened in downtown St. Petersburg on 31 May 2017. It is the 300th pharmacy in the Marathon Group's Mega Pharm pharmacy chain and the 50th in St. Petersburg.
Taking part in the opening ceremony for the A-Mega pharmacy at cashier zone of the Pyaterochka supermarket on Karavannaya Street were Marathon Group President Alexander Vinokurov, X5 Retail Group CEO Igor Shekhterman, and Mega Pharm pharmacy chain CEO Andrey Gusev.
"The A-Mega stores are in convenient locations and offer low prices, but a huge range of around 6,000 medications and associated products," Andrey Gusev said. "By year's end we will open another 100 pharmacies in St. Petersburg, while 850 of our A-Mega and Da Zdorov stores will appear throughout the country."
"We are more than satisfied with the pace at which our agreement with X5 is being implemented, and with the development of Mega Pharm as a whole. Today we are present in 31 regions throughout Russia, which is an excellent result by our highly professional team that Andrey Gusev managed to bring together," Marathon Group President Alexander Vinokurov said.
Looking back, the partnership project between X5 Retail Group and Mega Pharm shareholders that granted the pharmacy chain right of first refusal to rent space inside the X5 supermarkets at market rates was announced on 22 September 2016. The project provides for over 3,300 pharmacy retail outlets to be opened inside the Pyaterochka, Perekrestok, and Karusel supermarket chain stores by end 2020. Marathon Group's investment in the project will be up to RUB 6 billion.
