The Mega Pharm pharmacy chain (part of the Marathon Group) and Azbuka Vkusa supermarket chain (parent company City Supermarket LLC) have signed a cooperation agreement under which Mega Pharm will be given a 10-year right of first refusal to lease space inside the supermarkets to open pharmacies trading under the exclusive name of Azbuka Life.
The Azbuka Life pharmacies will be opened in Azbuka Vkusa supermarkets that already have subleasing areas available and in new supermarkets with commercial floorspace exceeding 650 sq.m. At least 6,000 different products will be available in the pharmacies, while over 12,000 products can be ordered at the points of sale or on the company website.
"The Mega Pharm chain's emergence into the premium segment is a logical continuation of our strategy of collaborating with retail chains that enables us to accurately predict the pharmacies' customer traffic, product range, and earnings. We are also expecting a big return from joint marketing initiatives," Marathon Group President Alexander Vinokurov says.
"It's very important that we offer our customers the possibility of one-stop shopping. We therefore expect the opening of the pharmacies offering high quality products and service right beside our supermarkets to have a strong synergistic effect," Azbuka Vkusa President Vladimir Sadovin says.
