Alexander Vinokurov was born on 12 October 1982 in Moscow.
In 2001 he completed a student internship at the investment company Troika Dialog.
In 2004 Alexander graduated with honors from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Cambridge. He received a BA and a MA in economics. During his studies Alexander established the Cambridge Russian-Speaking Society, a student organisation, and was elected its President.
Later that year he began his career with the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley (London).
In 2006 Alexander returned to Russia as Vice-President of TPG Capital (the world's largest private equity investment firm, with $100 billion in assets under its management), co-founding the company's Russian office.
He was involved in acquisitions of a number of major assets, including shares in VTB upon the state bank privatisation, stakes in the Moscow office centres White Square and White Gardens, Ontex S.A. (a Belgian manufacturer of personal hygiene products with Russian production facilities), Strauss Coffee and the Lenta hypermarket chain.
In 2011 Alexander assumed the post of President of Summa Group, which has significant investments in port and rail logistics, engineering, construction, telecommunications, oil and gas, oil trading and agriculture. Major deals were concluded during his tenure including the acquisition of a 71% stake in Fesco from Industrial Investors of Sergey Generalov and the purchase of a 50% stake in United Grain Company from the state.
In 2014 Alexander Vinokurov became CEO of A1, Alfa Group's investment arm specialising in the acquisition of the assets that are undervalued due to challenging economic or corporate situations.
Major transactions by A1 during his time there included the sale of Formula Kino, Russia's second-largest cinema chain, to the structures controlled by Alexander Mamut (RUB 6.75-7.65 billion); the acquisition of a stake in Polyplastic (one of Russia's largest manufacturers of plastic pipes), and the deal to find a new investor for the leading online auto parts retailer Exist.ru.
On 15 May, 2017 Alexander left his post as President of A1 to join Marathon Group.
Alexander Vinokurov is a member of the Presidium of the General Council of All- Russia Public Organization "Delovaya Rossiya," heads the Pharmaceutical Industry Committee of the organization. He is a member of supervisory board of the Russian Cycling Federation, as well as of the Russian Rugby Federation, and is the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC "National Immunobiological Company" (Nacimbio).
